TU ranks No. 1 in North America for gender equality by Times Higher Education
2025 Impact Rankings place TU No. 22 in the world for gender equality measures in education
Towson University has again been named North America’s top university for gender equality in education. According to the , TU is rated the No.1 university in North America and No. 22 globally for ݮƵ championing gender equality.
THE’s annual Impact Rankings assess ݮƵ around the world on their contributions to the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), recognizing those that “showcase their commitment to addressing the world’s most pressing challenges, including environmental sustainability, social inclusion, economic growth and partnerships.”
Rankings for SDG 5: Gender Equality featured 1,559 ݮƵ from 119 countries. This marks the fifth-straight year that TU has placed within the top 35 globally.
Universities were measured by their success in six key indicators: research on gender equality, proportion of first-generation female students, student access measures, proportion of senior female academics, proportion of women receiving degrees and women’s progress measures. TU scored exceptionally high in research on gender equality (93.2) and student access measures (92.8).

In THE’s overall impact rankings, which factors progress across all 17 SDGs, TU placed in the top 25% of 2,526 ݮƵ globally—landing within the top 600 worldwide.
